Missing sub-folders in Apple Mail

45.1If you have just added a new e-mail account into Apple Mail and are missing the sub-folders, you can restore them easily. We have noticed this issue a few times and it only appears to be a problem if someone has lots (around 10) e-mail accounts set up in Apple Mail.

The screenshot below shows three accounts. First the inbox will be shown at the top but you may be missing the corresponding folder at the bottom of the sidebar.

If your sub-folders are not displaying in Apple Mail then the workaround we have found is:

  1. Close Apple Mail
  2. Log into the webmail system of your e-mail account
  3. Create a sub-folder under your inbox. This can be called anything you want
  4. Once created open Apple Mail again
  5. The newly created sub-folder should appear and you will now be able to add more sub-folders from within Apple Mail - no need to use the webmail system again.
